Project description, chapter one

The client

Doof Vlaanderen is a non-profit organisation situated in Zwijnaarde (Ghent). The vzw strives for equality, emancipation and development of deaf people and their language, the Flemish Sign Language, in society.

Deaf Flanders also aims to strengthen its own network of deaf people by looking for new target groups who can identify with the story of our organisation, Doof Vlaanderen.

Core Project Statement

How can we, with a digital application, give the people of the non-profit association a sense of equality in society? How can a visual aspect play an important role in the process in which people can develop themselves. We want to create equality and emancipation for deaf people and their language, the Flemish Sign Language, in society.

Research domain

In Devine we often had to deal with storytelling. I always found this very interesting to do. Now I would choose to let the user empathise with deaf people and their language, the Flemish sign language in society. The user will have to make choices that he would normally never have to make, but that it is an everyday choice for those people. How do you bring such a storyline of a person in an interactive, surprising but also emotional way?
